It plays with the homophony that exists between the name of this parish and the glamorous French city of Cannes in the Costa Azul, and the none the less glamorous film festival held there. The parish of Cans, in Porriño, also decided to organise a simultaneous short films festival, which very quickly gained important media coverage. Well known Galician actors and directors present their short films or documentary works, video clips, etc. At Cans, to the visiting public, in the unique projection halls created for the festival: cellars, store rooms, stables and garages get converted into cinemas during the festival days.Short films and documentaries festival held at the same time as the famous International Cannes Festival. It was first held in 2004.

The festivity goes back in time to the past when the little town witnessed the arrival of the first men from America. Mainly residents from Baiona and other visitors from all over Spain participate in this historic representation dressed in attire of the time, with music, ambience, food of the time. They go around the town expressing surprise at the news about another new continent being found and celebrating the riches that would be forthcoming from this newly discovered land.A festivity with institutional acts that commemorates the arrival of the caravel La Pinta, in which representations from all towns related to Columbus' exploits, are held. There are also games held in parallel where the town relives daily life of the time that America was discovered.

An alternative rock festival in a rural background, where mainly Galician bands participate. Besides the rock festival, the Freixo Rock is preceded by passacaglia, popular games and handicraft workshops.Organised by the Freixo Circle and the Resident's Association of Freixo.

The Festa da Prehistoria (Prehistoric Festival) was created along the same lines as the Viking Festival at Catoira and the Festa da Historia (History Festival) in Ribadavia, so that people could have fun, enjoyment and participate therein, and travel in time to pre-historic times, dressed in attire of the time, eating manners, and even reliving activities and social organisation into tribes. It is an enjoyable way to spend a weekend amongst thousands of visitors that arrive from all around Spain. Feast to have fun with gastronomic elements and didactic itineraries through the archaeological remains found within municipal limits.

The ""regueifa"" is generally an improvised chant amongst two or more participants, that debate over an issue. The quality of the answering verse and the capacity to sustain the dialogue are determining values for qualifying this popular culture element of oral tradition. The Valadares festival offers an entire repertoire of ""regueifas"", improvisations in verse, hip hop, rap and a cock fight between other variations of a way of expressing, which although free is subject to a set of rules of verse and harmony.An event where reggae fans and improvisers participate, and in the latest versions added a day of improvised rap version. It includes a workshop on improvisation of oral verse.

The Revoltallo de Música Emerxente offers a week of concerts where all types of music styles are permitted. Musical groups from Vigo and the region share the stage with others who come from national and international places, within a musical event that is the most important of its kind in Galicia and also one of the oldest since it began in 1996. The activities carried out along the day complement free access of visitors to the concerts and the camp site at Mount Alba.Organised by Xuntanza Xuvenil (Youth Gathering) in collaboration with the Valadares Cultural Association, with sponsorship from the Vigo City Council. Duration, one week. Entry is free both to the concerts as well as to the camp site.
