Localization: In Cape Silleiro. On the C550 road between Baiona and Oia.
It entered into service in 1866 with a wicker lamp. In 1924, the lighthouse was housed at the current premises: with a conical tower situated on a masonry base where the lighthouse keeper's residence and other rooms are housed. Light was provided by an oil lamp at first. It was replaced years later with a kerosene lamp. The lighthouse has been operated with an electric lamp since 1960. There is a coastal artillery canon nearby that has been out of service for more than thirty years.This is a lighthouse with a fog siren. It has a bulb, with a power rating of 3,000 watts, which is enclosed in a chamber fitted with optical Fresnel lenses, and its light has a range of 30 nautical miles. Call sign: two flash groups 2+1 every 15 seconds. |
